Cashback system

I've recently discovered this cashback site called shopback.my which gives you cashback for shopping. 

This system is probably not something new if you are from America or UK. But, it's considerably new in Malaysia. Plus, it features so many popular online shops which I'm very sure most Malaysians know of.



They feature lots of online shops but the most popular ones are the sites which most Malaysians use.

The cashback is pretty good. I mean, who doesn't want some form of reward after shopping right?

I use Lazada & Zalora, so from there, I did get some cashback. 

Try it since it's free and you have nothing to lose anyways. 

No additional charge or even those subscription fees and all. 

Pretty much a win win situation right?

If there are other cashback systems out there, do give it a try.

It's really worth it and you don't need to pay them anything. 

China Series: How to ship your things from Beijing

I'm writing this post to help any of you who's interested to ship their things back to Malaysia at a very reasonable price. I thought this post would be useful, perhaps even helpful since I went through a lot in order to find reliable companies which are cheap enough. 

As you all may or may not know, I recently graduated and I have so MANY things to send back home. I contacted a lot of shipping companies, some didn't even bother to reply. And well, some were too expensive.

So here's the company that I used:

I went to the site & had an online consultation with one of the agents. The agent who consulted me & gave me all the information I needed was Leo. He was more than helpful really.

He even gave his Wechat contact and we continued our discussion on Wechat.

He informed me of the process, how to pay and absolutely everything I needed to know.

I was told that I could make payment after my items have been shipped from China, so no rush in payment. He offered me RMB500 when I told him I wanted to ship 3 boxes which were of 80cmx70cmx60cm size. That price is fixed for 1mx1mx1m box regardless of the weight.

So, since I've settled the China to Penang shipment, I had to find a reliable and cheap method to ship my items from Beijing to Guangzhou. If your boxes are pretty heavy like mine, use my method.

I contacted https://www.deppon.com/ to ship my things. As I didn't have a car, I opted for the pick up service which costed a little extra. I paid about RMB400 to ship my boxes which were 90kg in total. For this company, I applied and did everything online. I filled up the form which was available online & the whole process was pretty simple. After submitting the online application, the company called to confirm my address and date & time. On the actual day, a big truck came & helped me with my boxes. I just needed to sign & wait for them to calculate the total which I needed to pay.

Regarding the price, there's an online price estimator which is really accurate. So, you don't need to worry about them overcharging or anything. I used that calculator on their site and the total they charged was exactly that. It took about 3 days for my boxes to get to Guangzhou. The whole process was tracked pretty efficiently and everything was sent by SMS and also email.

I was informed by Leo when he received my boxes. The whole process was really simple and he guided me really well. It took about a month for my boxes to arrive in Penang, Malaysia. The boxes were dented but otherwise everything was perfectly fine. Leo actually gave me an estimated date of arrival but it didn't arrive on that day. I contacted him and he was really helpful with the whole process. He answered every question I had and even checked for me the status of my shipment. He said it'll arrive within the next few days and it did. Nothing was lost and I even got my boxes delivered right to my doorstep. Payment wise, very easy as I use Alipay and after paying, I just sent Leo a screenshot as proof.

I'm really happy with both shipping companies and am glad that I went with both. Deppon was actually recommended by Leo. He has been nothing but incredibly helpful. I'm really thankful to have found their website. In China, you have to be cautious all the time as scams are all around you. But this company is definitely not a scam.

If you're graduating from China or maybe working there but have decided to move out and you want to ship your things back to your country, I highly suggest checking them out.

China Series: VPN that worked for me

I'm back with another post on the China Series. I thought I should update on this since I'm leaving China real soon. So, which VPN worked for me?

On my Mac, I'm using ExpressVPN which you can find here: https://www.expressvpn.com/

Pros:

Works really well

Fast

Can be used on 3 devices

Cons:

Expensive

Doesn't work well if you select some locations

Meanwhile I'm using Psiphon on my phone. 

Pros:

Free

Cons:

Disconnects automatically after few minutes (For some reason, you have reconnect all the time)

Only available for android & windows (Can't download it on my Mac)

Doesn't work when you connect to public WiFi (I'm not sure why but this happens when I try to connect to the VPN while in cafes)

This is a very simple & short post about VPNs. I've tried a few others but they don't work as well as these two. Give them a try. If you're not staying in China & you're only here on a holiday, I suggest you just get Psiphon especially if you're not an iPhone user. It's the best solution. 

Also, try downloading all these VPNs before you come to China since most sites for VPNs are actually blocked. So, you can't even buy them even if you want to.

Back after a year & updates on my life~

Hello again fellow readers!

Though I don't think there are any readers left. I shall try to post more often. I was living without a VPN for a whole year. It was difficult, trust me! But now that I've purchased a VPN, I'll be trying to post more often. I don't buy any new skincare or any beauty products whatsoever anymore. So, I don't really know where this blog is headed but I do want to revive it. 

Since this is my last year in Beijing, more like my last semester, I'll try to post about China. 

So, moving on to updates on my life. 

I've been learning Korean for the past 7 months. If you've been following this blog, you would know that I love watching Korean dramas. So yup, that was the inspiration. I wanted to be able to watch the dramas without subtitles. I didn't really care about the speaking part or the writing part. I was so focused on the listening & reading. I realised that's not such a good way. So, I'm kind of reorganising my study method. 

As for chinese, well, I'm not really putting in that much effort but I'm still working on it. I did buy books and I'm learning it on my own. I don't really have an aim for chinese, just being able to converse is enough. I've reached that and am now trying to improve it.

I just started learning French as well. I figured France is the land of opportunity for my career so better start now. 

I've also noticed that the more languages I learn, the worse my English has gotten. I wonder if other people feel the same? So, I guess I shall now use this blog as a platform for me to maintain my English. Please don't deteriorate more~!

China Series: How to shop online & opt for Cash On Delivery

It has been quite some time since my last update on this China Series, a series where you get to know everything about China. 

If there's one thing about online shopping in China that I absolutely hate, it's paying online. I've been here for 2 years already but I have not activated my bank accounts to do online transactions. I've been surviving on Cash On Delivery(COD). 

I'm very sure most of you know what COD means. It's basically paying at the moment the goods are delivered to you. The words to look out for are "货到付款" As long as you see these characters, it definitely means COD. 

Personally, I opted for COD on both jd.com & amazon.com.cn
Never tried this for other sites but the result should be the same.
It's easy, secure & best of all, it's hassle-free.

China Series: Where to watch TV series & movies

Greetings~!

Welcome back to China Series, where you get to know all about China. As you all might have known, youtube is banned, so is dailymotion and a whole lot of other online streaming sites. So, where to watch all the latest TV series & movies?

China's very own youtube called Youku. Youku is really user friendly, though no english subtitles for chinese dramas. What I love about Youku is that they upload all the TV series really really fast, like within 24 hours after an episode actually aired. And I'm not talking about chinese dramas, I meant shows like The Flash and pretty much other american TV series.
(UPDATE: As of July 2015, they don't upload English TV series anymore. I have no idea why.)
Movies are free, though, not all. You can watch the whole Hunger Games series for free. 

For Korean dramas, I always watch them on dramago.com Why? Because they upload videos 1 day after airing in Korea, with english subtitles too! Fast right? And absolutely clear.

Shipping took too long ( the whole process was so much longer than expected especially when shipping isn't even free)

They took too long to process the order ( ordered on 24/6 but they only shipped it on 6/7, that's 2 weeks!)

Will I repurchase:

Highly unlikely to purchase from Malaysia but when i go back to China, i will since shipping is faster

Will only buy products on promotions/ really special deals

Review: COSRX Centella Blemish Cream

Texture:

Its texture is more like a normal cream type moisturiser. White but once applied, can be blended out easily. 

Scent:

It actually smells exactly the same as the Ciracle Red Spot cream.

My Experience:

Used this as a pimple/blemish cream rather than a moisturiser which makes this lasts so much longer than if used as a moisturiser. Applied on pimples and scars every night. Pimples reduced greatly. This does not break me out. Scars are lightened though I'm not sure if it's just this or combination of the OST serum as well as the water-gel which you can read all about here and here. I do not apply this during daytime, only at night.

Pros:

Minimises pimples & blemishes
Lightens scars (though again I'm not sure if it's because of this or combination of other products)

Lasts really long!

Cons:

Can only be found on Wishtrend
No place to keep the spatula ( I love Naruko because you can keep the spatula on the lid inside the bottle, wish they designed it that way as well)

Conclusion:

Great as a blemish cream!

Will I repurchase?

Review: (I'm from) Vitamin Tree Water-Gel

Texture:

Basically, colourless. And true to its name, it is watery. If you ever use Laneige's Water sleeping pack, this gel is exactly like that.

Scent:

Smells fresh, very faint fruity smell. Claims to be fragrance free, so I'm guessing it's the natural smell of vitamin? 

My Experience:

Used this every night as a moisturiser. Lasted pretty long. Started using on 11/4, finished on 7/7. About 3 months worth if you use this only at night. I would say it lasts really long since I have a big face actually. And a little goes a long way for this gel since only very small amount is needed to cover the whole face. I absolutely love the watery texture and how easily it glides on my skin. It gives plenty of moisture, I survived winter with this! And mind you that I have dry skin type. This didn't break me out at all. I would say that this gel has lighten my acne scars though I don't know for sure if it's this gel or all the combination of products I used.

Pros:

Lightweight (very light and you won't feel like it's clogging your pores or anything)

Not sticky after applied (I hate how some/most moisturisers tend to make your skin feel slightly sticky)

Big size ( lasted 3 months)
does what it claims

Cons:

Expensive (not high end kind of expensive, but out of my budget)

Only available on Wishtrend 

Conclusion:

If you are looking for the lightweight type of moisturiser which doesn't feel sticky after applied, then this is the right moisturiser for you. Especially if you are aiming for whitening, more to evening out your skintone due to acne scarring. For people with sensitive skin prone to acne breakouts, this gel is definitely for you.

Will I repurchase?

Yes (though I am wishing for better deals as the Wish, try, love deal is already over.)
